Dental Bridge Process

Dental bridges are a convenient option when replacing one or more missing teeth. They consist of a pontic (false tooth) that is attached to two crowns, which function as abutments (anchors). The bridge is cemented in place on the two teeth adjacent to the gap, which supports the false tooth.

The process for getting a dental bridge is very similar to getting a crown.

Preparing the teeth

The first step in the process is to prepare the teeth that will hold the bridge. The teeth on either side of the missing tooth are shaved down with a drill and then an impression is taken. This impression is sent to a lab where your permanent bridges will be made.

Creating a temporary bridge

While you wait for your permanent bridges, your dentist will create a temporary bridge so that you can leave the office with a full set of teeth. The temporary bridge will be removed when you return for your second appointment.

Receiving and fitting the permanent bridge

When you come back for your second appointment, your dentist will remove the temporary bridge, check to see if your gums have healed properly, and fit you with your new permanent bridge. If it fits well and there aren’t any major issues, then it will be permanently cemented into place and you’ll be all done!
